Many people believe that you can not see bed bugs with the naked eye but adult bed bugs grow to 4 or 5 mm in length and because they’re slow movers can be seen by observant people.

bed bugs are attracted to humans by their warmth and carbon dioxide. When bed bugs bite they pierce the skin with two tubes. Using one tube it injects the human with saliva, while using the other tube it withdraws blood. If left undisturbed the bed bug will feed for up to five minutes before leaving. It isn’t until sometime later that the bite starts to be felt as a reaction occurs and a need to scratch the bite area is felt.

• Large, itchy welts that can be up to eight inches across
• Skin inflammations that blister up.
• Small groups of swollen pus sacks.
• Skin rashes that may look like hives.

Bed Bug symptoms include a red bump or welt, these are often accompanied by an intense itching feeling. These bumps and welts occur because of an allergic reaction to the bed bugs saliva. It is hard to tell the difference usually between a bed bug bite and that of a mosquito, usually a bed bug bite will last longer. It can take up to nine days for bed bug bites to appear on the body and in many cases there will be sequential bites in the same area. This happens when the bed bug is disturbed during feeding and it moves a little ways before settling down to feed again.

People who experience bed bug bites vary in how their body reacts to them. In rare cases people can become nauseous and feel ill. In many people there are no visible bed bug symptoms so it can make it much harder to know the cause.

It is important to try and resist itching the bites because this can cause scarring or infections to occur.
